Toronto Hungarian Film Festival
Young Directors Contest
The Toronto Hungarian Film Festival is proud to announce a contest for young directors as part of our upcoming festival from September 27-29, 2024. This contest aims to showcase the talents of emerging filmmakers who have a connection to Hungarian culture, either through their heritage or the stories they tell.

6 winning short films will be screened alongside our feature films. Winners will also be invited to the festival's opening ceremony and director's Q&A where they will have the opportunity to speak with prominent Hungarian directors.
Eligibility
To enter the contest, the director, writer or producer must be under 30 years old.
Short films must meet at least one of the following criteria:

Produced, Written, or Directed by a person of Hungarian descent

Feature a Story About Hungary
Film Specifications
Genre: Any genre is acceptable.
Length: Short films must be between 5 and 10 minutes in duration.
Language: Films can be in any language, but if not in English, they must include English subtitles.
Submission Format: Films should be submitted in .mp4 or .mov format.

Entry Fee: No entry fee.

Judging Criteria
Creativity and Originality: Unique vision and storytelling.
Technical Excellence: Quality of production, including direction, cinematography, editing, and sound.
Relevance: Adherence to the eligibility criteria and theme.
Emotional Impact: Ability to engage and move the audience.
Selection and Awards
Finalists: Six short films will be selected as finalists and screened during the festival.
Jury: A panel of esteemed industry professionals will judge the entries.
Awards: Prizes will be awarded for Best Short Film, Audience Choice, and Special Jury Mention.
