Toronto Hungarian Film Festival

Director Submissions

The Toronto Hungarian Film Festival is proud to announce that we are accepting submissions for Hungarian Canadian filmmakers as part of our upcoming festival from September 26-28, 2025. This contest aims to showcase the talents of filmmakers who have a connection to Hungarian culture.

Selected films will be added to our festival program. Winners will also be invited to the festival's opening ceremony.

Eligibility

To submit, films must be produced, written, or directed by a person of Hungarian descent​

Film Specifications

Genre: Any genre is acceptable.​

Language: Films can be in any language, but if not in English, they must include English subtitles.

Submission Format: Films should be submitted in .mp4 or .mov format.

Submission Guidelines

Entry Fee: No entry fee.

Submission Platform: Submissions will be accepted through our online submission form below

Required Materials:

  • Completed submission form.

  • Link to the short film (private Vimeo/YouTube link).

  • Director's bio

  • Film synopsis (max 300 words).

  • Production credits.

Timeline

Submissions Open: April 1, 2025

Submission Deadline: July 15, 2025

Notification of Finalists: Auguest 1, 2025

Festival Screening Dates: September 26-28, 2025

Judging Criteria

Creativity and Originality: Unique vision and storytelling.

Technical Excellence: Quality of production, including direction, cinematography, editing, and sound.

Relevance: Adherence to the eligibility criteria and theme.

Emotional Impact: Ability to engage and move the audience.

Selection and Awards

Finalists: A select number of films will be selected as finalists and screened during the festival.

Jury: A panel of esteemed industry professionals will judge the entries.

Awards: Prizes will be awarded for Best Film, Audience Choice, and Special Jury Mention.
